A very attractive antique folding plate camera dating from around the turn of the 20th century, constructed with a polished mahogany body, black bellows and finely made metal front standard. Cameras of this general wooden folding plate form were widely produced in Britain around the late Victorian and Edwardian period.
The front standard has a particularly nice architectural appearance, with an ornate circular lens panel, adjustable fittings and a small optical finder mounted above. The bellows extend from the wooden body along the metal bed, making this a great decorative piece even when not being used photographically.
The original lens is not present, as shown in the photographs, and I have not identified a maker's mark, so it is being sold primarily as an antique photographic collectible or display piece rather than as usable camera equipment. There is general age-related wear, tarnishing and marking throughout, all consistent with its considerable age.
