A beautifully imposing antique Scottish “family bible” edition of Brown’s Self-Interpreting Family Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments with extensive commentary, references, and illustrations. Published in Edinburgh by Thomas C. Jack, 11 Melbourne Place (undated, but very much a 19th century production), it has that instant Dark Academia / Gothic Revival library presence—ornate, weighty, and made to live on a lectern, side table, or bookshelf as a statement piece. This example includes striking decorative title pages (see photos) and retains its impressive decorative metal clasps, a feature collectors love on these larger “house bibles.”

Condition-wise, it presents as a genuinely used antique: noticeable rubbing and wear to the cover and edges, age-toning/foxing to pages, and wear at the front inner hinge area as photographed. The clasps show age and patina. A charismatic, display-forward piece with honest wear.
