A striking antique English copper jug dating to circa 1900, with a beautifully sculptural pear-shaped body, wide flared trumpet mouth and contrasting dark ebonised wooden loop handle. The handle is secured by a shaped metal mount with traditional riveted construction.

The simple, elegant form is characteristic of Arts & Crafts and early Art Nouveau metalwork, with the unpolished copper retaining a particularly attractive warm brown patina. A lovely decorative object in its own right and also well suited for displaying dried flowers or foliage.

Good antique condition with plenty of age and character. There are surface marks, small dents and irregularities throughout, together with areas of oxidation and patination. An old soldered repair or patch is visible to the interior near the rim, and there are faint old scratched markings to the underside. Not tested for watertightness.

Measures approximately 29 cm / 11.4 inches tall.
