A really lovely early to mid 19th century oil on board painting featuring a lady reading a book in an interior setting with wood panelling, in the background a doorway reveals a staircase. In the foreground an attentive greyhound with its feet on a stool. To the right hand side of the lady there is a boy wearing a turban, suggesting that the setting is in India. Framed in a beautiful generous black lacquered wood frame. Both the frame and painting are in good condition.
A label is present on the back for Charles Robertson and Co. a business that supplied artists materials. The address on the label, Longacre, London is where the company traded from from 1810 - 1837.
