Excellent vintage or antique Fang reliquary figure in good condition. The Fang people kept a sense of continuity with their ancestors through a cult known as Bieri. Figures such as this embody the qualities that the Fang admire most - namely tranquillity and vitality. These figures would be placed on top of reliquary boxes to guard their contents from those forbidden to gaze upon them. This statue would make an excellent addition to any collection of African tribal art.
