An good quality hand knotted tribal rug with lovely red and orange hues from all natural vegetable dyes. The rug is quite worn but still looks great and has lots of life left in it.
Circa 1910, the warp and weft are both made from sheep's wool.
Shirvan rugs are tribal rugs that were made by the indigenous peoples that resided in the Southern Caucasus in an area that is now the eastern and northeastern area of present day Azerbaijan including the city of Shirvan. They are known for their high quality, sophisticated designs and are very collectible.
