Approx. 4'6" x 2'9" (136 x 83 cm) hand-knotted wool tribal rug with a deliciously rich, almost raspberry-red field and two linked charcoal medallions picked out with ivory and soft teal. The small-scale floral and geometric motifs give it lots of movement without feeling busy, and the ivory flower-and-vine border frames it beautifully. It’s a brilliant size for a hallway, in front of a sofa, beside a bed or layered over a larger neutral for that editorial, maximalist look. Very at home in cottagecore, boho and old money interiors.
Likely woven in the mid 20th century in the Northwest Middle Eastern highlands, this rug has a wool pile on a cotton foundation with a soft, dense handle. Condition is good, lived-in vintage: age-related wear to the pile with some lower areas, a little abrash in the reds, slight fraying and unevenness to fringes and selvedges and the usual small marks you’d expect from an older handmade piece, but no big holes or structural issues.
