Approx 4'2" x 7'4" (128 x 224 cm), this vintage Afghan Baluch tribal rug is hand-knotted in soft wool with a dense, low pile and a lovely time-softened handle. The field is laid out in a grid of small guls in rust, brick red and tobacco brown with pops of ivory, framed by multiple patterned borders. It has that classic Baluch moodiness that works beautifully with dark wood, leather and layered textiles.
Likely mid 20th century, this is a brilliant piece for current cottagecore, maximalist and dark academia interiors – perfect under a coffee table, in front of a sofa or to warm up a studio or reading corner. Condition is good and usable with age-related wear: the pile is low and even, there is some colour variation and a few darker marks in the field, particularly towards one side, and the fringes are worn and a little uneven. Selvedges are generally sound with minor rubbing in places.
