Approx. 4'2" x 6'2" hand-knotted wool rug with a bold stepped medallion on a busy allover field, framed by ivory latch-hook spandrels and deep navy corner panels. The palette is a gorgeous mix of brick red, inky navy, soft ivory and teal with little hits of gold, giving it that classic townhouse-library look that works perfectly for old money, cottagecore and maximalist interiors. It is a great size for a sitting room, under a small dining table or to anchor the end of a bed, and layers beautifully over wooden floors or larger neutral rugs.
Likely woven in the northwest Middle Eastern highlands in the mid 20th century, this piece has a wool pile on a cotton foundation with a good, dense handle. Condition is very nice, honest vintage: pile is generally even with only light age-related wear, there is some minor fraying and unevenness to the fringes at both ends and a touch of wear along one selvedge plus the usual small marks and colour variation from use, all shown in the photos. No holes or major repairs.
