This is a early 20th century hand-knotted wool rug in a bold Kurdish village design, featuring a strong central medallion set against a deep indigo field, framed by stepped geometric borders in terracotta, rust, soft ivory, teal, and muted saffron tones. The palette is rich but well balanced, with the slightly softened colours and gentle abrash giving it the relaxed, lived-in character that works so well in contemporary interiors. The drawing is confident and graphic, making this an ideal piece for layering, a bedroom, studio, hallway, or beneath a small table.

Construction is wool pile on a wool foundation, with a medium-low pile that shows honest wear consistent with age. As shown in the photos, there is edge wear, light fraying to the ends, and some softening to the pile in places, all of which read as visual character rather than damage and suit current wabi-sabi, bohemian, and collected-interior aesthetics. The rug lies flat and remains structurally sound, making it perfectly usable while retaining its vintage appeal.
