Particularly interesting are the pair of stylised hand motifs towards the upper end of the field, a feature found on traditional Caucasian Kazak prayer rugs. Fachralo rugs are especially associated with structured prayer-niche compositions and strong contrasts of red, blue and ivory.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI would identify this as a Fachralo Kazak weaving from the southwest Caucasus, most likely the area of present-day Georgia. Fachralo is a historic weaving village south of Tbilisi and is particularly known for this type of prayer rug.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe rug has a wonderful palette of faded brick red, strong turquoise-blue, ivory, burgundy and smaller green accents. Multiple geometric borders surround the central field, including a particularly attractive broad ivory border of angular motifs. The reverse clearly shows the hand-knotted construction and the colours remain considerably stronger on the back.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eGood vintage condition with age-related fading, wear and minor irregularities throughout, all adding to its character. The pile is relatively low in places but the overall design remains crisp and vibrant.
