A richly coloured vintage Afghan Baluch hand-knotted wool rug with an exceptionally striking deep madder red field and bold geometric tribal motifs throughout. The compact proportions and strong graphic patterning give this piece a wonderful visual impact, making it ideal as a bedside rug, entrance rug, wall hanging, or accent piece within layered interiors.

The rug features traditional tribal guls and angular border motifs woven in black, ivory, camel, and soft aubergine tones against the saturated red ground. The upper panel and directional composition suggest prayer rug influence, giving the piece additional character and collectability. The wool has developed a beautifully softened handle and mellow patina through age and use.

Hand-knotted in wool, likely mid–late 20th century Afghan Baluch (Baluchi) tribal work from the Herat–Farah / Khorasan weaving tradition. There is age-related wear and some areas of edge wear and irregularity consistent with authentic tribal rugs, all adding to the rug’s atmospheric character.
