A handsome mid-19th-century writing slope in richly figured mahogany with brass corners and shield cartouche. The box opens to a two-part writing surface covered in green baize; both panels lift to reveal storage beneath with a long pen tray and small stationery compartments. The original brass hinges and escutcheon are present. A classic piece of portable campaign furniture that works beautifully as a laptop perch or letter-writing desk today.

Condition is sound and usable with the honest wear you’d expect from age and travel: the baize shows wear and fading, there are ink and use marks inside the pen tray, a shrinkage split to veneer is visible along one outer edge near a brass corner (see photos), and general scuffs and small knocks to the case. The lock is present but there is no key.
