An excellent mid 19th century oil on canvas painting in ornate gilt gesso frame. The painting depicts a soldier hanging out of a window, I believe a soldier of the "Kings Lifeguard Regiment" by the uniform.
The King's Lifeguard was a regiment of soldiers who fought for King Charles I during the English Civil War. The regiment was raised in 1642, and was involved in many battles, including the Siege of Hull, Edgehill, and Naseby.
In good condition apart from a small chip to the frame.
32cm / 12.5" x 37cm / 14.5" including frame
