superb French bronze crab-form inkwell, late 19th century, cast with naturalistic detail and a deep, chocolate patina. The carapace lifts on a firm hinge to reveal the original well (liner now absent). It’s a hefty, sculptural piece with wonderful presence—equally at home in an old-money library, a dark-academia study, or an oceancore vignette.
Measured directly from the tape in the photos, it is 18 cm (about 7") end to end. The hinge works smoothly and the lid closes neatly. Honest antique condition: surface wear and rubs to the high points, spots of verdigris in the crevices, a couple of light bends to legs and a tiny tip loss to one, and the inner glass/porcelain liner is missing. Sits square thanks to the stabilising foot; please review images for the details.
