A beautiful Sekunda oil lamp with figure of Ganesh on the front and the Naga King on the top. Great patina and good condition for its age. Dating from the 19th century, the lamp has a fair bit of corrosion but still looks great.

Sukunda lamps are indigenous to the Newar people of the Kathmandu Valley. They are used for a wide range of religious and social purposes. Sukunda is derived from the terms Su (beautiful or serene) and Kunda (lake). The oil represents a lake, and the light represents the sun.
