A scarce original 1947 double issue of the influential French art journal Verve, Volume V, numbers 17 and 18, devoted entirely to the work of Pierre Bonnard.
Published in Paris by Éditions de la Revue Verve under the direction of Tériade, Couleur de Bonnard brings together paintings and drawings produced during the final fifteen years of the artist’s life. The publication is richly illustrated throughout with figure studies, female nudes, interiors, landscapes and reproductions of Bonnard’s vividly coloured paintings.
Bonnard designed the distinctive illustrated cover and decorative elements especially for this issue. The edition was also published with an original colour lithographic frontispiece entitled Le Soleil, printed by Mourlot Frères, alongside numerous colour and monochrome reproductions and texts by Bonnard and Charles Terrasse.
The cover is a little worn but the spine and pages are in good condition.
