A lovely compact English oak student’s writing desk dating from around the 1930s, with a particularly useful extending top and a bank of four graduated drawers.

Made from richly figured oak with a warm aged colour, the desk has four drawers fitted with shaped wooden handles and a single pedestal construction. The right-hand section of the top folds out to increase the working surface from 84 cm to approximately 108 cm wide, making it an unusually practical piece for a smaller room, home office or bedroom.

A characterful piece of early 20th-century furniture with plenty of age and patina throughout, including the expected surface marks, knocks and wear from use. The drawers run well and the desk remains sturdy and usable.

Folded dimensions are approximately 84 cm wide × 48 cm deep × 68 cm high / 33 × 18 7/8 × 26 3/4 inches. With the extension open, the desk measures approximately 108 cm / 42 1/2 inches wide. Kneehole approximately 43 cm wide × 66 cm high / 17 × 26 inches.
