A lovely original 1930s Art Deco pendant light with a softly mottled opaline glass shade, hand painted with a charming meadow scene of small blue and yellow flowers, grasses and butterflies. The scalloped lower edge is picked out in green, giving the shade a particularly pretty period appearance.

The glass has a gently fluted, tapering form and the decoration has the slightly naïve hand-painted character typical of domestic lighting from the period. It is suspended from a dark patinated metal gallery with decorative pierced detailing.

The electrical fittings have been updated with a modern bulb holder and approximately 80 cm / 31.5 inches of brown braided cable, allowing the original shade to be used while retaining an appropriate period appearance. As with any vintage hardwired light, installation should be carried out by a suitably competent person.

The shade presents very well with the expected minor signs of age and use. I can’t see any obvious major damage in the photographs.
