A particularly attractive circa 1930s Art Deco pendant light with an unusual hand-painted frosted glass shade. The shade is decorated with a wonderfully delicate Chinoiserie waterside landscape, including a pagoda, sailing boat, bridge, flowers and distant hills, picked out in soft blue, pink, green and red tones.

The moulded glass has a gently faceted form with a scalloped lower edge, giving it a lovely silhouette both lit and unlit. The combination of the pastel painted decoration and geometric shade shape is very characteristic of interwar decorative lighting and makes this much more interesting than the more commonly encountered plain mottled glass shades.

Fitted with an aged bronze-coloured gallery and braided flex as photographed. The glass appears to be in very good vintage condition with expected minor age-related wear.

With modern bayonete bulb holder and braided cable.

17cm diameter
