A striking early 20th century English pewter pedestal bowl, probably dating from the 1920s–30s and bearing a faint maker’s mark to the underside consistent with Argent Pewter.
The broad shallow bowl has a beautifully planished or hand-hammered surface, raised on a tall flared pedestal foot and finished with two elegant open geometric handles. The combination of traditional hammered metalwork with the increasingly streamlined form gives the piece a lovely transitional Arts & Crafts to Art Deco appearance.
The pewter has developed a wonderfully mellow dark silver and bronze-grey patina throughout, with oxidation, spotting and surface wear consistent with age. I have deliberately left this untouched rather than polishing away the original surface.
Measures approximately 22 cm high × 23 cm diameter × 32 cm across the handles / 8.7 in high × 9.1 in diameter × 12.6 in across the handles.
